The Level 3 Assessor Qualifications have been developed by Lifelong Learning UK and are the QCF replacement for the A1 and A2 qualifications.
There are now four Assessor Qualifications which encourage progression, for instance the first Award is aimed at those who intend to gain an understanding of Assessing rather than practice as an Assessor.
The qualifications covered are:
- CMI Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (QCF)
- CMI Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (QCF)
- CMI Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (QCF)
- CMI Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QCF)
Each qualification is summarised below with the corresponding UK and International fee, inclusive of VAT, tuition, course materials and registration with the awarding body. Further supplementary programme information is provided towards the end of the page, and in the FAQ.
Course fees can be paid in full directly via the secure payment option next to the qualification to be studied. For alternative payment methods, including monthly payment plans, see our FAQ.

Duration
The length of time varies depending upon the time you can commit to studying. A basic guide:
Award: 6 – 8 weeks
Certificate: 18 – 24 weeks
Assessment
Assessment is normally via a portfolio of evidence, assessed by ET&C. This ensures you minimise time away from work and that you undertake work study which is relevant to your own organisation’s context.
Academic Equivalences
Qualifications at QCF Level 3 portray practical skills and competences that are rated in academic terms as being comparable to GCE AS/A Levels.
Entry Requirements
These qualifications can be offered to individuals from age 19. There are no specific entry requirements for these qualifications, but ET&C must ensure that individuals admitted to the programme have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment.
Progression
On successful completion of a Level 3 Assessor qualification, a number of progression opportunities become available:
- Enhance your professional status by upgrading your CMI membership
- Progress to other qualifications at the same level (e.g. from Level 3 Award to Level 3 Certificate)
